ImageShack Uploader for WordPress

arne on March 5, 2007
Latest release:

I’m happy to present you another Plugin for your WordPress Blog: The ImageShack Uploader.

ImageShack is a free easy-to-use hosting service which allows you to upload your images and share them with others. You can embed these images directly into your website and use the auto generated thumbnails.

Requirements | Download | Installation | FAQ

What does this plugin do?

This plugin allows you to upload images from your WordPress post screen and to insert them with the thumbnail into your post with a few clicks.

The plugin requires WordPress (2.1 or better) and the PHP extension "curl". You can just download and try it, if curl is not installed it won’t break your blog.

Pricing and Licensing:

Good news, this plugin is free for everyone and released under the GPL.

Upload the plugin to your wp-content/plugins folder and activate it.

Using the plugin

On the "Write post" screen, you’ll find a new tab named "ImageShack" next to the "Upload" tab below the content text field. Click on it to switch to the ImageShack upload form. After the file was successfully uploaded, you can insert the image into your post.

Please post in the WordPress Support Forum if you need help with this plugin. It is very likely that you will get a faster response there than if you write me a mail.

Just FYI. In WordPress 2.1.2 I receive this error when I attempt to activate this plugin. I know nothing about PHP so I can’t help debug this:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’ in /home/mysknet/public_html/steph/wp-content/plugins/imageshack.php on line 60

Hi, the plugin violate ImageShack Terms of Service?

Comment by arne

Posted on March 20, 2007

@Framd: Why should it violate the TOS? It’s using the provided XML-API by ImageShack and theres an ImageShack logo next to the upload form.

This has to be one of the easiest ways to get an image into a WordPress blog. I’ve used PhotoPress and others with mixed results.

Interesting, you don’t need an ImageShack account. I don’t have one and it worked for me.

Note: Images are not re-useable, you will have to upload anew for a different post or do some copy paste between screens. If you need the same image on more than one page you may be better off with the standard browse/upload scenario already in WordPress.

A bit of offtopic though, I’m looking for this simple with a form. That is without the integration of wordpress plugin. A user uploads the image on my website and it uploads to imageshack and displays the hotlink url.

I would be thankful to you, if that’s possible.

Too bad your plugin doesn’t support WP v2.0.2.
I uploaded and activated it, but there is no new tab named “ImageShack in the “write post” section.

Is there a chance to get it runnin on v2.0.2.?

Thx ! ;)

That is an amazing plugin. I have one suggestion for the future releases (if such will occur): you could add an option to login to one’s ImageShack account.

I have tried tricking it by first logging into my account and then trying to upload an image, but it didn’t work :(

How can I pull images from a friend’s myspace show that seems to be imbedded? Do I have to ask her for the images or can I pull them somehow?

Great Release..
I’d suggest one more thing for the future update.
Imageshack have a feature called Image Resizing and that is missing in this plugin. It will be really good if you add that too.

Through the using of this plugin you have saved me a lot of work so i can work on the content instead of modifying the source.

Really a good plugin.

Thanks a lot for this!

My question is, these images are on the imageshack server, so what happens to them in the long term ? Will I find out one day that my images are no longer there ? How long do you keep all these images … indefinitely ?

I’ve drifted over to WordPress from playing with Linux – running Ubuntu Gutsy, to Joomla! –, and other sites – now blogs.

I’ve not been able to add ImageShack images to my Blog @ using your plug-in.

Some nice additions would be:

– to be able to resize image on the fly, by keeping the aspect ratio
– to be able to remove the black border from the imageshack thumbnails
– to be able to put the image into own imageshack account

I found some parameters but I’m not sure how to use them

$post[‘rembar’]=’1′; //removes the image parameters bar
$post[‘email’]=’'; // puts the image into this email’s imageshack account, doesn’t work…
$post[‘tags’]=’tag1,tag2′; //adds tags
$post[‘optimage’]=’1′; //optimizes image
$post[‘optsize’]=’WIDTHxHEIGHT'; // resizes image
